There’s nothing like a cold cocktail to finish off the work week. My go to is a moscow mule. I’ll be honest, I only tried them because of the copper mugs. Those gorgeous mugs keep your drink chilled, but leave not so gorgeous water spots on your table. A set of modern crochet coasters to match the mugs is a must.
The bold black and white tribal print is an ancient design technique, mud cloth. Women would paint intricate designs on fabric with mud. The trend is popping up everywhere in home decor. From pillow, blankets, and now drink coasters.
The Perfect Crochet Edges
Last week I shared with you 4 ways to start a new row in crochet. I was testing out swatches to make a perfect square. I wanted straight edges without any gaps. The foundation turning stitch was the clear winner for a set of square crochet coasters.
All of those swatches were made with double crochets, which were too loose for the coasters. A drink coaster should be made with a tighter stitch, a single crochet. Because the single crochet stitch is short you don’t get the awful gap at the beginning of each row. I chose the basic way to start each row – chain 1, skip the first stitch, single crochet into the second stitch.

- Worsted Weight Yarn in Black and Cream * Use wool or cotton yarn. Acrylic yarn will melt if you place a hot mug on top.
