Make this simple Over The Moon Hat newborn crochet pattern. It's a perfect gender neutral crochet baby hat that will be cherished for years to come.

Welcoming a new baby is one of the most exciting times for parents. Their registry is full of practical items like car seats, blankets, and onesies. I’m all for practical gifts, but a memorable heirloom gift will be kept forever.
The sweet story of how Nana crocheted them this baby hat will be retold over and over.
Although appreciated, I’m sure my mom doesn’t remember who gifted her that box of diapers. But the handmade dress with her babies name embroidered on the collar is still hanging in my closet.
Each time I shuffle through those clothes I remember the sweet “grandma” from our small town church that took the time to sew me something special.

Thank u for this patter, I just finished one for my son due in only a few days and am in love with it.
So exciting Angela! I’m sure your newest one will be darling in it 🙂
Thank you, I knew my star just didn’t look like, well, enough ..
Thanks so much for this pattern! I just made it for my third grand baby due to arrive in September. I did use a lighter weigh yarn and just added rows to make it longer. I also used a smaller hook – 5 mm. This nana loves the way it looks!
Oh Denise! What a sweet gift. Congratulations on grandbaby #3. I’m glad you loved the pattern and thanks for sharing your modifications.
Stay Cozy,

Thank you for the pattern!! So cute!! Are you making 2 stars and stitching them together? My one star looks sooooo big.
Hi Alana!
I did make 2 stars and sewed them together. It just made the star more sturdy. The finished star is about 4 inches. I hope this helps!

Im not getting a long enough tall when i try this pattern where do i add stitches to make it longer??
Also, what do you mean by “make a magic circle”?
Hi Brenda!
The magic circle is a way to start crocheting in the round. Here’s a good video tutorial that explains the different ways to begin.

Love the idea of the Over the Moon baby hat..think my dtr will love it too. Problem is she lives in L.A..and Im wondering how practical the chunky yarn would be for that weather. Do you think I could do this hat with a lighter yarn? If so what would you recommend without distorting your pattern?
Thank you.

I think this hat will work with a lighter weight yarn, I just haven’t tried it! I would try starting with 6 or 8 double crochets in round 1 and then follow the pattern, knowing your stitch count will be different at the end of each round.
Let me know how it goes!
