Hi Linda,
I'm sure your alphabet project is going to be so fun when it's finished! I'm not sure how the pattern is written that you're working on, but most puff stitch patterns have 1 row that works the puffs then the next row is simply single crochets, followed by a row of puff stitches. That way all the puffs will be facing the same direction.
I hope this helps!

Your pillow is really pretty! I’m also working on a project with puff stitches and was searching for tips on how to keep the puffs from going to the back side. My pattern says to push the puff to the front after you make it, but I notice you said the puff will show up on the back side. Mine start out on the right side, but as I work on farther, some of them slip through to the wrong side.

I have to keep the puffs on the right side, because the puff stitches actually form the letters of the alphabet. I tried doing a slip stitch behind the puff, and that does keep the puff in place, but when I turn and work the next row (on the wrong side) I have trouble finding the proper place to work into the back of the puff stitch. That threw my stitch count off! So I started over from the very beginning!

I’ve been just making the stitch after the puff quite tight, to try to keep the puff in place, but I was hoping there was a better technique.
